In second place with his oration, "Loyalty to the Government," was an 11th-grader from Allatoona High School, Cameron Ulrich. Third place went to Acworth home schooled senior Noni Lawson speaking on "The People’s Gift," and the fourth place award went to Allatoona High senior Jana Ford speaking on "Our Duty to Tell the Government What We Want".

The top three finalists were awarded cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100, respectively.

The American Legion is the largest veteran’s service organization in the world, organized in 1919 by a group of WWI veterans. The Legion boasts over 2,400,000 veteran-members world-wide. These wartime veterans, working through 15,000 community-level posts, dedicate themselves to traditional American values; strong national security; adequate and compassionate care for veterans, their widows and orphans; community service; and the wholesome development of our nations’ youth. The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Contests have been held annually since 1938.
