Vaughn Williams Joins The Golden Soldiers Board
The Golden Soldiers is proud to welcome Vaughn Williams, Kennesaw State University Athletic Director, to serve on The Golden Soldiers board of directors. Williams, the former Associate Athletic Director of the University of Connecticut, brings more than 18 years of NCAA Division I senior athletic administrative experience and commitment to community engagement to his new appointment. As a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, and Black Coaches and Administrators, Williams’ expertise and affiliations will be crucial in the successful planning of future TGS special needs baseball, athletic and community initiatives.
Williams and his wife Eileen have three children – Aidan (6), Austin (4) and Lacey (4) and the family resides in Acworth, GA. His commitment to family, athletics and community led him to say the following when asked why The Golden Soldiers’ mission is important to him: Working in athletics we have the ability to train and use our full athletic potential – helping young people who don’t have those same privileges is both humbling and rewarding. He also ascribes to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous quote: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.”
The Golden Soldiers Founder and President, Lindsey Turner, is pleased to have Williams join the team. Turner said, “Having a person of the caliber and with the talent and expertise of Vaughn Williams to join our board is a testament to the direction The Golden Soldiers organization is headed. Vaughn has an amazing passion for giving back and serving others. I am overjoyed with the opportunity to work with him to advance The Golden Soldiers’ mission and build a facility to include an array of athletic programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.”
