3 More Charged with Marine's Murder

An Acworth man and two others join Sean Hall in the Cobb jail in the death of Zach Gamble.

Four men now are charged with murder in the death of Iraq war veteran Zach Gamble.

Cobb County police arrested Arthur Lynell Batchelor, 37, of Acworth, Tarell Winston Secrest, 36, of Marietta and Jason Scott Hill, 35, of Marietta on Tuesday, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said in a news release. (Jail booking records list Hill as a Woodstock resident.)

Each is charged with committing felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery against Gamble, a 34-year-old Marine veteran from Acworth who police say suffered a fatal beating early March 25 after a party at the Concord Crossing Apartments in Smyrna.

Sean DGene Hall, 38, of Mableton was arrested Monday on the same charges in Gamble’s death.

The arrests follow more than a month of police investigation and pressure from Gamble’s family, including a Facebook page, to solve his death.

Gamble was found unconscious in the parking lot about 6 a.m. March 25 after a taxi accidentally hit him.

Police detectives determined that his severe head trauma came from a beating, not from the cab.

Gamble, who worked for Uni-Select in Kennesaw, went to the Smyrna apartment March 24 for a friend’s birthday party, police said. Something caused an issue between the Marine and others, and several men confronted Gamble in the parking lot after the party.

Gamble, who had survived two tours of duty in Iraq between 2001 and 2005, never regained consciousness at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died April 8 after he was removed from life support. His survivors include a 7-year-old son, Luke.

Hall was arrested without trouble at his job on Highway 92 in the Woodstock area, according to police.

Batchelor, who lives in the 4500 block of Lexford Court, just north of Kennesaw, was arrested without incident about 11:30 a.m. where he works along Interstate North Parkway in East Cobb.

Hill and Secrest were arrested together at home without trouble at 7:30 p.m. with the help of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office fugitive squad, Pierce said.

Secrest lives in an apartment in the 1600 block of Roswell Road, and apparently Hill, whom jail records show as living in the 8300 block of Brandon Street in Woodstock, is staying with Secrest.

All are being held in the Cobb County jail without bond.

The investigation continues, and police ask anyone with further information to call 770-499-3945.

Hi, Jerimiah: The police said he was arrested at work, and the booking report said he was arrested at Regions Bank. But the two sources don't always agree, and it's not an important fact to the story. So I have removed it. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks, Jerimiah, and no problem. If we make a mistake, people should call us on it.

Why doesn't anyone notice the 800 pound gorilla in the room! Namely the racial aspect of this case! Why are the media and the police turning a blind eye to the OBVIOUS increase of black-on-white attacks! These are obviously rhetorical questions because the left-wing media lackeys want to maintain the racism myth in this country.

Why does there need to be a racial aspect drawn to this case John?? So that people can continue to say that is the reason why they do wrong or kill? The FACT is.......a man lost his life. The FACT is........a family lost their loved one. The FACT is........ our country lost a soldier who fought for our lives daily. The FACT is......it was wrong. The FACT.... is it was a terrible tragedy and the people who did it should be punished, regardless of who they are or the color of their skin. PERIOD!!!

Really? Obviously you know nothing of Zach or his family and nothing about the "ties" that bind. You are the elephant in the room! Crime on anyone by anyone is a huge problem in this country! You are part of the problem, uneducated mouth yapping, not the solution, education=know the facts before you embarrass yourself."
This is a case of uneducated actions by humans God put on this earth to show the rest of us what Judas looked like! Ughhh

I agree with Rebecca. Why is racism an issue? Because people make it one! Get past the fact of someone skin color & make whomever breaks the law pay for it. You do the crime, guess what, you do the time!

I agree Christy. It's just a moral injustice that Zach's family should have their tax $ go to these devils "time." That money should go to a trust for Luke, Zach's son, not the cowards who betrayed his father and stole his "Spectacular Dad" from him.

I am in agreeance with both ladies. Wrong is wrong no matter what the race. The "Gorilla" really should be the media who hypes things up and puts things in a light and spectrum to instigage and outrage people. What better way to divide people as a whole than to put a question of doubt in peoples mind about eachothers intentions.

Dont get me wrong..media is important on sending messages out to the community, however I think that the power that is used in media today has been grossly abused. Think of all the other countless victims around the globe who's cases are getting NO notoriety. No closure. Nobody fighting for thier memory or cause. Crime happens on many many levels. When are we as a community going to put our foot down and say enough is enough and start looking out for eachother no matter what the race, no matter what the crime?

Zach was FAR from racist and it's a scar to his memory and his son for anyone to make a racial issue of this!

I want to start with my thoughts and prayers with the family of this young man. Its a horrific crime and no body need to go through something like this. Im a military man myself. On a self preservation note to everybody please becareful were you go or who your with at a party after 10pm. These mugs looks suspect from the photo, some people just want to start something. If I saw them walk up in a party it would be in my best interests to leave. Im just saying. I lived 28 years in South Dekalb, and gratefully moved to a safe quite area in Bartow. And this is not a racial thing because I'm black. Everyone that makes this a racial thing you have to becareful and cautious of all backgrounds. Ignorant is ignorant.

I can agree with everyone on this page. I'll start from the bottom:
Dante-I am white and I agree if I was at a party and saw these same men come in but they were white instead-I would still want to get out without question. You have to trust your gut no matter what race, creed or gender you maybe.
Donna: I am like you, I cry for those that have suffered a tragic loss for I have suffered many and have an idea of the pain that another one has gone thru and if I haven't I try to imagine myself in their place so I may be more compassionate and understanding to their plight. This is being human: regardless of race.
John, Rebecca, Christy and AJ: Yes, wrong is wrong no way around that one. "Why does it have to a racial issue?" as one put it. John-the 800lb gorilla- yes while the media is largely responsible for a lot of angst that takes place in our country-there are some things that have to be acknowledged. If this situation were reversed and it was a black military hero beaten to death by four white thugs, people would be marching and protesting all around the country. Who is responsible? The people? The media? Perhaps both. The media would be covering it like crazy, people would be jumping on the band wagon, etc...It would be very similar to the Trayvon Martin case. Had it been a white teen killed by a hispanic male, it would not have gotten such attention. That case got so much attention when our "soldiers" get very little attention to their life being lost. No Justice!!

First off I am a white female and I want everyone to remember that these men have NOT been convicted and when did it become guilty until proven innocent? Were any of y'all there?? since when did the media and anyone else NOT THERE THAT NIGHT become judge and jury?? Why was the guy there and why did what happen to him happen?? I personally know one of these guys you call a "thug" and if he had a part in it I'd be floored!! In the 10+ years we have been friends I have never met a nicer up standing guy.. he is the one that is the first one to text you on your birthday and wish you a Merry Christmas.. I've not known a more gentle caring cool guy as him! I also want you people to think how "awesome" y'alls mug shots would be before you say if you saw them you'd leave a party too. I do believe if all these men did do this then yes they should be punished. Let's think also, how great is our justice system?? Have they never arrested an innocent person before?? One last thing.. I truly hope the mans family who lost his life gets the true justice they deserve by making sure the right people pay for the crime but let's not forget "he who is without sin cast the first stone"

I had the misfortune of interaction with one of these THUGS and I couldn't stand him from the moment he walked into the room. The only good that loser brought the the world, as far as I am concerned, is the introduction of a gentleman who later gave me an awesome and handsome son, who is forever Zach's cousin! So glad you think so highly of ur "friends!" don't forget....they were Zach's so called Judas friends since middle school. Look where it got him! Takes the phrase "I got your back" to an entirely different level. They all have been guilty since the minute the LIED in attempt to cover up a murder. That my dear has been proven a FACT! So Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas!

I am a friend of two of the people that have been arrested for this crime. One thing that I have not seen brought up in all of the facebook or news articles is, these guys were friends. Zach went to a birthday party of a friend to be with other friends and now those friends are in jail for killing him. I don't know about any of the others but Arthur "B" Batchelor is NOT capable of this crime. Art had already posted on his facebook his well wishes for Zach to recover and then sent his prayers out to Zach's family after his death. I can imagine he was floored when they came in his work and arrested him. As far as "racism" goes it has absolutely NOTHING to do with this crime. Art has more white friends than he does black, I being one of them. The point I want to make is that Zach was there willingly at a party with friends, no one at this time knows why an altercation broke out and no one knows what happened to Zach in the hours between that time and the time he was found.

Oh but the "friends" at the party so clearly do. I didn't see one of those "friends" at Zach's viewing or funeral. Your comment about Zach willing going to a party is not only irrelevant it is offensive and I hope you or your children never have to be devasted by something so horrible and have some insensitive moronic comment to read. Do you also believe rape victims willing attending a party has any relevance to them beingraped?

I am going to speak on behalf of Art (Arthur). I worked with him for years, even traveled out of state on vacation with him. Been to few of his birthday celebrations also.

He is one of the funniest nicest guy I honestly know. All the years we worked together and I been out with him. I never seen in any heated arguements unless he his DISCUSSION football.

To that guy john garret HE IS A TOTAL RACIST. Their is a john on CBS website that made the same remark about racism. I bet its the same person. So guess who well start paying attention to this type of cases also. I will be fellowing behind you.
And by the way those birthday celebrations for Art was always almost equal whites and blacks. Anyone who knows him knows he has lots ans lots of white friends. INCLUDING ZACH.

To the comments about leaving a party if these guys show up. COMPLETE BULL. If you was at a party where Art was at. You would want to get to know him also beacause of all the attention he would be getting from people who know him being the funny car that he is.

You are all saying that racsim is not an issue in this case, yet saying that these suspects are friendly to white people and have white kids. It doesn't matter that they are, it is the fact that a human being, a Marine, a father, a son, a brother, friend, uncle, nephew, was murdered. Think of all of the people taking affect because of this. Think of his son who will now have to grow up without a dad because these men decided to take his life. What if only one of them did it? They still didn't tell anyone, and that makes them guilty in all moral and ethcial aspects. Everyone is capable of murder. Everyone is capable to do whatever they put their mind to. So please don't sit here and try to tell me, and everyone who reads this that these men were not capable of murder. This is an atrocity. I hope that whoever reads this comment will get their mind stuck from out of the gutter and look at the main reason. Zachs life was lost.
