An Acworth man on Wednesday was appointed to the Cobb State Court bench.
Cobb Senior Assistant District Attorney Henry R. Thompson will succeed Judge Robert D. Leonard II, Gov. Nathan Deal said in a news release.
The announcement came more than two months after Deal elevated Leonard, also of Acworth, from State Court to Superior Court.
The Judicial Nominating Commission in December interviewed 17 applicants for the State Court vacancy, then sent three candidates to Deal.
In addition to Thompson, Deal considered Cobb Assistant Solicitor Jane Pyron Manning and Municipal Court of Marietta Associate Judge Maziar Mazloom.
A graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia School of Law, Thompson's appointment will take effect upon swearing in.
