Acworth Soldier Among Iraq War Casualties

The 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq began 10 years ago this week on March 19 and although officially "over," fighting continues with discouraging persistence.

The U.S-led invasion of Iraq began 10 years ago on March 19, 2003. By one count, the war is directly responsible for 189,000 deaths, not including those who died from hardship caused by the fighting.

In all, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, including 141 Georgians.

Among them is one soldier from Acworth. From the CNN war casualties website:

  • Sgt. Brian Daniel Ardron, 32, Company A, 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. One of three soldiers killed when multiple roadside bombs detonated near their vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq, on May 21, 2007.
