Acworth Students Excel at American Legion Contest

They finished in the top four of Saturday's local American Legion High School Oratorical Contest.

When the results of the local American Legion High School Oratorical Contest were announced Saturday, three students from Acworth finished in the top four.

Second place honors went to Allatoona High junior Cameron Ulrich, who spoke about "Loyalty to the Government." Acworth home school student Noni Lawson won third place ("The People’s Gift"). And Allatoona High senior Jana Ford got fourth place ("Our Duty to Tell the Government What We Want").

Ulrich and Lawson received cash prizes for finishing in the top three.

The day's top prize went to Kennesaw Mountain High senior Audrey Milam, who is one step closer to winning more than $20,000 in cash and scholarships after being named the top local orator at Saturday's contest.

Milam, who chose third party representation as her topic, won $300 as well as the chance to represent North Cobb Post 304 at the district-level competition scheduled for 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at Marietta Post 29, 921 Gresham Ave., Marietta.

After Saturday's district contest, there are two more rounds of competition before the national finals commence April 19 in Indianapolis.
