Be Creative with Your Summer Activities

Beyond traditional summer activities, Greater Atlanta still has plenty to offer for bored and weather-weary teens and parents.

The novelty of summer is over-it is too hot for the zoo and state parks, the fireworks are depleted, you have already been to a Braves game, you have watched everything the RedBox has to offer, the neighborhood pool feels more like a hot spring and your teenagers are sick of the mall. How do you beat the heat and keep teen (and parental) boredom at bay?

The latest Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, is released this Friday. They are sleeping until noon anyway, why not take a family outing to the 12:05 a.m. showing at NCG in Acworth? Check out the earlier encore showing of the Deathly Hallows part 1 for a movie marathon style family event. Expect costumes and applause during the film as opening night Harry Potter aficionados are quite the festive bunch.

Harry Potter not your style? Atlanta's Fox Theater is bringing back the Sound of Music. This Sunday at 2 p.m. the Fox will host a Sound of Music Sing-a-Long perfect for the entire family. The movie will be shown with lyrics displayed, a costume contest held and goodie bags will be given out to add to your participation in the event. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
