High-Speed Chase Ends with Arrest

Authorities say Thomas Joseph Madrie, 34, who was injured in a crash, was wanted on prior charges.

A  high-speed chase that went through Acworth and ended in an Interstate 75 crash.

The chase started in Cartersville when a Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a news release the patrol deputy had received a "be on the lookout," or BOLO, alert for a stolen vehicle near Cartersville. Within three minutes, he spotted the allegedly stolen silver Jeep Cherokee in a fitness center parking lot on Collins Drive.

As the deputy approached the car, which appeared unoccupied, the driver suddenly sat up and allegedly fled from the parking lot in the Jeep. The resulting 10-minute pursuit continued on Highway 41 through Cartersville and then I-75 southbound.

It reached speeds of more than 100 mph.

After crossing into Cobb County, the driver struck a tractor-trailer, ending the pursuit. The driver, Thomas Joseph Madrie, 34, was injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Madrie was wanted on numerous charges prior to the incident, including probation violation and family violence charges. Cartersville police also seek his arrest in connection with the alleged theft of the Jeep Cherokee.

BCSO deputies will have additional charges as well.

No other injuries were reported in the pursuit, which ended near Wade Green Road.
