Interesting to note that there is no specific discussion of the pros and cons of spending an additional $4 billion on rail, only a comment that "it creates construction jobs". Think of what we could do with $4 billion in real congestion-relief projects if we didn't pour it down the rail rathole.

After reading this article on the TIA I would like to see a link that will provide more info. Do you have one?

I have no problem with a rail system, so long as it is paid for directly by fare sales. This means that the people who ride the rail, pay for the rail. I drive a car and I pay for the road via tolls and a gasoline sales tax. I would not ask a rail commuter to pay for the road on which I drive, so why should I pay for a rail that I do not ride? Call me old fashioned, but I think people should pay for what they use.

uh... jake, my man. mike makes a good point below, and the point was already made (with citation) that drivers are paying a lesser share of the cost of roads than riders are for commuter rail. "old fashioned" may fit here, but not in any good sense of the phrase.

Jake - Do you think that all of the gas taxes you pay only pay for the roads on which you drive?

Where are all the libs out there. Sales tax is one of the most regressive taxes in existence, hitting the poor disproportionately harder than the wealthy! We're talking about increasing the sales tax in most metro Atlanta counties to 8%. If others get their way, we could have a 9% national sales tax on top of that or even worse, a 23% Fair tax, giving us a 31% sales tax! You people are out of your minds if you vote in favor of this! This stuff has to stop!

Of course libs aren't really all about the poor or they wouldn't support the lottery either. They pander just enough for the vote and most are too ignorant (as in uninformed) to know the difference, so they vote for their own demise.
