Mitt Romney Wins Georgia

Voters in Georgia on Tuesday cast their ballot for Mitt Romney, giving him the state's 16 Electoral votes, according to early results.

In a move that fell in line with expectations, Mitt Romney was projected to win Georgia’s 16 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Democrat Barack Obama.

In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Republican candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times.

Romney and Obama did not campaign aggressively in Georgia and spent more time visiting the Peach State to raise money. The state has been a Republican stronghold in recent presidential elections.

The economy was a key issue for many voters in Georgia state, which has had a higher than average unemployment rate.

Turnout was strong in Georgia and early voting was almost as popular this year as four years ago.

Statewide, nearly 1.9 million people voted early. In 2008, there were a little more than 2 million early ballots cast. And on Tuesday, many polling places reported steady or heavy turnout despite chilly, rainy weather as the polls opened.

At Kennesaw Elementary School, Charyl Stevenson voted for Mitt Romney.

"I'm ready for some change. Hopefully that's what's gonna happen in the next four years if he's elected," Stevenson said. "If not, I'm gonna pray real hard that Obama is gonna do something different because more of the same is not working."

At Towne Lake Community Church in Woodstock, Ken McGhee was eager to cast his ballot for Romney on Tuesday afternoon. "I think this is the true change we need to believe in," McGhee said.

In 2008, Georgia voters went for John McCain over Obama by 52.2% to 47%.

When Goldwater voted against the Civil Rights Act in 1965 that started the movement and the drift continued with the Nixon southern strategy. Carter carried the state and so did Clinton (Ross took away some Republican votes). The drift continued until Perdue was elected the first Republican gov.since reconstruction. The state has been in a decline since this happened. We are racing to see who hits bottom first Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, or Louisana.Yes we are first in all the wrong categories and last in all the right categories.

This was a contest between two people who a lot of people didn't want as President. I think most people vote across party lines. I'm fairly happy because the middle and lower-class people won't be pushed aside. People like me, without insurance, will have a chance to get healthcare coverage before I get some horrible disease and die from it. I will not be happy with the immigration reform or the gay marriage stuff, but since those two things probably won't affect me like not having insurance. I need insurance and I cannot afford $350-$500 a month. Now, I expect the comments on this story will get extremely heated, but most of the Republican's comments will be moot. They lost the election.

PamJ...you obviously don't understand the principles of Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act. If you can't scrape together $ to pay for medical insurance now, how are you going to pay the $2500 fine (errr....tax) for not having mandatory insurance? By the way, Obama isn't paying for your medical insurance...YOU ARE!!! Maybe you ought to cancel your mobile phone subscription and get a land line, shut off the cable tv and stop eating at McDonald's; you'll then be able to afford your medical insurance.

Apparently all of you haven't read the whole bill. If you can't afford insurance, you will not be fined. Each state will have the chance to set up a bank of companies to get free health care if you fall below the poverty line. If the state chooses not to do that, the federal government will kick in. If you read the whole bill, you won't be so scared of it. And Jerry, I have a cell phone (that I've had for years) that I use basically for emergencies, my mother (who I live with) has cable TV. We go out to eat and she pays. I don't get any government aid. Because I have family to take care of me and because I chose to change my life completely and move in with family members, I don't qualify for any kind of aid. Actually, the policies that bred the free cell phones go back to the 90's. In the last three years, however, the free cell phone users have increased 429% in Illinois alone. And yes, it is tax payer money that is paying for them. All government funds belong to tax payers.
Couple that with last February's announcement that all Obama phone users will be entitled to broad band internet for just $10. per month and what you have is vote purchasing, which, by the way, is illegal.
Some of you Dems, please, research who is manufacturing the phones. I will give you a hint: It's a guy in Mexico who has donated BIG BUCKS to Obama's campaigns. Check it out.

If you look at a map of the US by precincts, nearly the whole country was red with only tiny pinpoints of Blue. The only Blue was metropolitan areas which have higher concentrations of people on the dole.
93% of America's Black population voted for Obama, most based on race (but this is not racism?) alone followed closely by the hopes it will mean more free stuff from America's working class. The Dems have been breeding voters in housing projects for generations and their system has worked for them.
Yes, the POTUS is Obama. But, before you tell folks to get over it or move to another country you should think a little more about it.
Google "capital flight" and you will see wealth is indeed leaving our country. If Obama stays his course, there will be nothing left to tax and our Middle Class is screwed.
Just because Obama was re-elected doesn't make him a good choice. Answer this question: If voting were limited to only people with an IQ of 70 or higher (100 being the median in all IQ tests) , would Obama have still been re-elected? What does the answer tell you? He knows he must get jobs imported back to the U.S. if the current situation continues, and the bottom drops out, you will be facing extreme measures by people who no longer can access the free stuff and benefits. The US Census shows that people who identify themselves as black comprise 13 percent of the country's population. I am not sure how a mere 13 percent (if they all indeed did vote Democratic) of the population propelled the President back into office. Maybe you can explain. Yes, wealth is leaving the country. In the last days of the campaign, George W. Bush was at a Caribbean conference, telling those in attendance how to shelter their money offshore. And, goodness me, Newt himself said during the primary season, “I don’t know of any American president who has had a Swiss bank account.” Mr. Romney does, plus other interests in tax havens like Bermuda and the Caymans. Talk about wealth leaving the country! this was long before his failed run for President.

RM- But what do you think we should do to keep wealth in this country? That is the question. So far, we are running it off.
As far as Romney having a Swiss bank account (which I don't know to be true), that's just good business. When there are robbers around, you bury your money, common sense.
As far as 13% affecting the vote, the difference in the popular vote was only 2.48%.
Use your head.
It's easy to counter the Romney being the first President with a Swiss bank account with Obama being the first President with an illegal alien fugitive uncle living in the US.

Now that I need the money I put into these programs, I keep hearing people talk about getting Medicare and Social Security as if I was leaching off the backs off working people. Jenny, that is not what people are referring to. They are referencing the benefits such as welfare, food stamps, subsidies, etc. Benefits for doing nothing and not working have surpassed the nation's median income as of last year. That means it is cheaper to just sit at home, do nothing and wait for all flavors of government benefit checks. No, this is not retirement I am talking about.

You referring to the Cato analysis? It includes Medicaid in its assessment of equivalent wage. Also, the fact that the equivalent welfare wage ranges from 5.53 in Mississippi and 17.50 in Hawaii suggests that it's not federal policy.

These entitlement talking points have to include retirement, college tuition, and everything else to get their numbers. Federal welfare/Chip/food stamps was $468billion.

Most people cannot survive on welfare and food stamps. You cannot pay your mortgage or rent and all of your utilities. I admit that you can "adjust" to having less money, but it's not really a fun place to be. There have always been people who will take advantage of the system, but the increase in costs for these programs is, in a bit part, due to high unemployment. If companies would stop discriminating against unemployment people, the number of people getting benefits would drop. I don't get any aid because I apparently don't qualify, so I'm not costing you anything. I just hope that none of you ever have to apply for government aid.
