Updated: Multiple Hits for Motorist Killed on I-75
Authorities have identified the man found in a travel lane near an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder.
Updated Tuesday, 2 p.m.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Shannon Larry Chumbler, 37, of Cumming.
Wright said troopers continue the investigation, but have no new leads in the case.
Original Report
A stop early this morning to check an abandoned car on Interstate 75 led to the discovery of a body that had been struck by several vehicles, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said.
The Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputy about 1:35 a.m. pulled to the side of I-75 northbound near Glade Road in Acworth and saw the body in a travel lane. Authorities say oncoming traffic had hit the person multiple times, but it also appears he or she was in a travel lane on initial impact.
Investigators believe the first vehicle to strike the person is larger, possibly a big truck. Agencies in the area have been alerted to be on the lookout for a larger vehicle with damage consistent with hitting a pedestrian. At 10:30 a.m., none had been found.
GSP, the sheriff's office and the coroner are working to positively identify the person and notify the next of kin.

Our family is sending our thoughts and prayers your way. My uncle and cousin were killed by a motorist on I-20 while changing a tire years back. It is a devastating loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Shannon's parents and family. My Mom and her best friend worked with Shannon a few years ago and thought the world of him. My husband went to school with Shannon and said he was always very nice in school. This is such a senseless loss and our prayer is that God will comfort Shannon's family and give you all peace in a way that only GOD can do in such a tragic situation. Peace & Blessings, Neena & Matthew Payne
