Towne Lake Man Dies After Cherokee SWAT Standoff
What started out as a SWAT standoff has ended tragically in an upscale Towne Lake neighborhood.
A man who barricaded himself inside a home at 351 Iron Hill Trace was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Cherokee Sheriff's Office's Lt. Jamie Gianfala said Sunday evening. Read more on Woodstock Patch.
Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Former Kennesaw State University Student in Athens
Emily Bowman of Woodstock was walking in the grass when a 1997 red Mazda pick up truck traveling eastbound on Oak Street left the roadway, hit her, then fled the scene, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Read more on Kennesaw Patch.
Man Dies in Morning House Fire
A 20-year-old man died of smoke inhalation Saturday following an early-morning fire on Campbellton Road in Atlanta.
The victim, Scarri McNeal, was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital, WSB-TV reported.

K-9 Apprehends Doughnut Truck Thief After High Speed Chase
Several police vehicles engaged in the pursuit of a stolen doughnut truck through Gwinnett County — a pursuit that ended with a foot chase and a K-9 bite.
Gwinnett County Police were dispatched to the Exxon station on Dacula Road recently in response to a stolen vehicle. The vehicle — a Krispy Kreme delivery truck — had been stolen while the driver was inside the store making a delivery. Read more on Dacula Patch.
Another ‘Person of Interest’ Named in Homicide of 14-year-old GHS Student
The three teens already charged in the December 19, 2012 murder of 14-year-old Paul Sampleton, of Grayson, have appeared in front of a Gwinnett County magistrate judge in connection with the crime, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Two of the teens, Romaine Stewart, 18, and Achiel Morgan, 15, are charged with armed robbery and Larnell Sillah, 15, is charged murder. The AJC reports that information revealed in the hearing included that the motive was robbery. Sillah, the only one charged with murder so far, is allegedly the leader of a gang named the “Young Wavy Goons.” Read more on Loganville-Grayson Patch.
