Both the Allatoona High School varsity girls and boys basketball teams won the Region 7-AAA championships Saturday.

The girls defeated Cartersville 56-40 after splitting 1-1 with the Purple Hurricanes during the season.

The boys went into the regional tournament with a perfect record and defeated Dalton 63-34 in the first meeting of the year for the two teams.

Allatoona will host the first and second rounds of the Georgia High School Association AAA state playoffs beginning this weekend.

According to the Allatoona athletics Facebook page, the school plans to hold a doubleheader with the girls and boys.

The girls will play Gainesville, Region 8-AAA's fourth seed, and the boys will play 8-AAA fourth seed Monroe Area.

The Buccaneers will earn second-round home games with wins. The boys will play either Towers or LaGrange, and the girls will face either St. Pius X or Columbus.
