The Secret to Summer School Success

It's possible to do well in summer courses and still have fun!

The days are long. The weather is warm. The sun is shining. It is one of my favorite times of year. It is summer time! I have had a countdown running on my laptop for a few weeks now. There are only a couple more weeks until I am home free. Not really though, because I start school again the Monday after finals week is over.

I stayed at Mizzou and took a class last summer. I will be hanging around again this summer. I am looking forward to it. Summer will relieve a lot of stress that I have had this semester. The challenge though is knowing how to balance school and fun during the summer.

One of the tricks is to work ahead when you can. Why? Because when fun things randomly come up in the middle of week you will be in a good place with your schoolwork. You can take the day or night off without guilt. Your friends will want to do fun things randomly on a Tuesday, because when you are still a student during the summer months, everyday is the weekend.

Even if you don’t work ahead, try your hardest not to fall behind. During summer school, instructors have to cram the same amount of a material that they usually take an entire semester to cover into several weeks. Falling behind hurts a lot worse during summer school courses.

If you are talking a class for your major or something you are particularly interested in, really delve into the material since you have the time.

Don’t take too many classes. It’s still summer vacation! You have worked hard all year. You have earned some type of break. Plus, you will want to be refreshed and energized to resume classes in the fall.

There you have it folks. The secret to summer school is remembering that you are still in school. If you continue all the good habits you practice throughout the year, you will do just fine.
