The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce is conducting a community survey to help identify effective strategies to reduce underage and youth binge drinking. More than 2,000 participants from Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Marietta, Powder Springs, Smyrna and unincorporated Cobb County are needed by Sept. 30. A similar survey was previously conducted in 2009 as a requirement of the Sober Truth On Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) Grant. The North Cobb American Legion Post 304 will be hosting its 2nd Annual 5K Run on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Dallas Landing Park in Acworth. Wayne Dennard was sworn in on April 19 as the new Acworth police chief, following the resignation of Former Chief Michael Wilkie, who is leaving for a teaching position at Bob Jones University, a Christian university in Greenville, SC. Dennard has been with the Acworth Police Department for nine years and has held the rank of major more than three years. He holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and has completed his studies to obtain a master's in public administration from Columbus State University.
