Computer Maintenance Tips

Here are some tips and programs to keep your computer safe.

Long time no blog! I hope that everyone has been doing well! I've been really busy with school. I am 2 semesters away from graduating and I am very excited.

I am on Facebook a lot, and have had some friends ask me "My anti-virus software is about to expire. What do you suggest I use?"

Well I have decided to share this with everyone the three programs that I use, and the best part is that they are all FREE!.

The first piece of software is called Ad-Aware. This program provides real-time protection on your computer and works to inform you about trojan viruses, spyware, hijackers, etc. All which can be very damaging to your computer.

The second program is called AVG. This too is a virus protector and will provide real-time protection. If you click on a link that contains possible viruses, a pop-up message from the program will come up and inform you that the page that you are about to visit, may be potentially harmful to your computer. The same thing if you are downloading other software from a site that you have never been to before.

Last but not least is Malwarebytes. This is the same thing as both of the sites above. It also is a virus protector but most of all, it's a malware scanner which will detect potentially harmful files on your computer.

You may be thinking, are all of these programs necessary? Well no, but I have all three installed on my laptop and I run a scan with all three of them every couple of weeks to make sure that nothing has slipped through the cracks. It's amazing how sometimes they do, but I have had no problems with the occasional pop-up stating that I am about to go to a page that may be harmful to my computer.

There is also a great little website that I use to make sure that a site that I am about to visit that I have not visisted before isn't full of harmful things that could attack my computer is called Sucuri Security. Just click here and it will take you to the site where you can type in the address and see if it is a safe site to enter.

Last thing that I suggest is that if you are going to download program, that you use Download.com. All the files that are available for download on Download.com has already been scanned for viruses and won't infect your computer. The links that I have provided to you in this blog are all safe to visit.

Hopefully this blog will help you in case you are worried about picking up potentially harmful viruses on your computer. I know what it is like to have a computer with viruses on it.
