More than 1.4 billion people in developing countries live on less than $1.25 per day, facing challenges most Americans never will. Compassion International’s Change the Story: The Compassion Experience is making a five-day stop in the Atlanta area at the North Georgia State Fair Sept. 20-24, bringing visitors on a journey into the lives of three former Compassion-sponsored children who lived in India, Uganda and Bolivia.

The 20-minute self-guided journey will immerse visitors in the lives of one of the three children, traveling with them from hardship to hope for a future. Through the use of a personal iPod, a headset and over 3,100 square feet of interactive space, visitors will see the children’s homes, walk through schools and markets, and hear life-changing stories of hope–all from the perspective of a child growing up in poverty. This event is appropriate for all ages and is an excellent opportunity for anyone who has never had the chance to travel outside the U.S. to get a small glimpse of what life is like in developing countries.

At the event, one of the stories you’ll experience is Julian Alum’s, who was a 10-year-old Compassion-sponsored child living in Uganda. Julian, now 29 years old, will be at the North Georgia State Fair to share her story about her journey of coming full circle from living in poverty in Uganda to becoming a college graduate with a Master’s Degree in social work.

Tour visitors are encouraged to make a reservation by visiting Compassion.com/change, however, walk-ins are welcome. Groups of 20 or more should email changetour@compassion.com to reserve their space. The cross-country tour will stop at more than 35 locations and travel 65,000 miles across the United States this year.
