Cobb County Domestic Violence Task Force News

According to a report by the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Georgia ranks 10th in the nation for female domestic violence homicide victims. Domestic violence is a serious crime that affects thousands of people across Georgia every year. Because these types of crimes are perpetrated by people each victim knows and cares about they can go unreported or ignored. Victims that do report such crimes can be faced with embarrassment, financial struggles, and confusion about how to move on trying to get away from the abuse. In Cobb County, the Cobb County Domestic Violence Task Force represents many of the services available to victims in need. The Cobb County Domestic Violence Task Force exists to create a cooperative relationship between members of the community who are seeking to help both the victims and perpetrators of Domestic Violence. Members in the task force are comprised of service organizations, law enforcement, prosecutors, counseling services, social services, and animal protection services. The task force meets regularly to develop and implement strategies to continually reduce the number of domestic violence cases within Cobb County. In the past, the Task Force has assisted the North Georgia YWCA with their annual fundraising golf tournament to help support the Georgia Domestic Violence Hotline. The Task Force has also provided numerous training sessions for judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement in recognizing signs of domestic violence. They have helped animal rescue services like Ahimsa House increase their network of volunteer service providers across the state. The Task Force has also provided teen dating violence training and training materials to individuals who work with adolescents in the community. This year, the Task Force has joined the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence Fatality Review Project. In 2014 the Cobb County Domestic Violence Task force looks forward to another productive year of helping people at risk of domestic violence learn to live a violence free lifestyle. If you would like to join the Task Force efforts please contact us at cobbcountydvtaskforce@gmail.com or through the Northwest Georgia YWCA.
