150th Anniversary of the Great Locomotive Chase

Here are the things you need to know on April 12.

Expect Areas of frost before 9 a.m., otherwise, sunny skies are in, with a high near 65, according to the National Weather Service. Temperature will drop to a low around 37 going into tonight, with mostly clear skies.

Today is the 150th Anniversary of the Great Locomotive Chase. Communities and tourism entities along the chase route from Marietta to Ringgold are hosting a variety of events and activities today and throughout the weekend.  

The Great Chase Sesquicentennial CD audio tour, produced by the Georgia Department of Economic Development, invites visitors to follow the great chase, beginning in Marietta and ending in Ringgold with an estimated drive time of three hours. The "General", the northbound passenger train stolen by Union raiders led by James J. Andrews of Kennesaw, is on display at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw. The Southern Museum is open from 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. today and is free of charge to the public.
