Acworth Boy To Compete in Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Camp

The camp for kid amputees, run by all veteran amputees, will be held at Disney World.

A local boy is headed to Disney World to take part in a softball camp limited to only about 20 kids. But softball isn't the main lesson of the five-day camp at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

"Life without limb is limitless" is the message the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Kids Camp hopes to demonstrate to Acworth resident Adam Kiel and other children, ages 8 to 12, with amputations or missing limbs.

Adam is the son of Beth and Tom Kiel. He was born in 2001 and is a left leg, below-the-knee, amputee, according to the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team.

Created in March 2011 and comprised of veterans and active-duty military personnel, who lost limbs while serving in the military, the team travels the country playing able-bodied softball teams and hosts camps for kids, which this year takes place June 10 to 15.

The nonprofit pays all expenses for the children and one of their parents to attend camp, including travel, meals and lodging. Players serve as coaches, instructors and mentors "for children who are facing some of the same challenges as our team players" according to the organization's overview, attached.
