BBQ Festival on Lake Acworth

Kick off the barbecue season with the Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival in Acworth.

More than 25 teams are filling up in Acworth at the on May 11, from 6 to 10 p.m., and May 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pro and backyard teams will compete for the largest cash prize offered in the event’s history. More than $11,000 is up for grabs to see who takes the title as the Grand Champion and takes home $2,500 in cash. The Reserve Grand Champion will be awarded $1,000.

Superior Plumbing is presenting the event which kicks off with a free concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 11, featuring Sons of Sailors, a Jimmy Buffett cover band.

Reserved tables that seat six can be purchased for $100, which includes two pizzas and six soft drinks from . You can walk around and taste all the BBQ you desire, as the Taster’s Choice award will be decided by patrons of the event. Fun activities for the kids are also available in the Kids Zone.

On Saturday, May 12, Scott Thompson of Peachtree Station will perform from 11 a.m., to 3 p.m. followed by the award ceremony.

Admission to the festival is free, and parking can be found downtown with free shuttles running Friday night and all day Saturday.

The Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival is the largest annual fundraiser for the Rotary Club of North Cobb as proceeds of the event go to local charities such as the special needs in Acworth.
