Food Network Chef Visits Acworth

Chef Aaron McCargo, Jr. from "Big Daddy's House" visited Fresenius Medical Care Acworth to help raise awareness about diabetes.

To help raise awareness of the links between diabetes and chronic kidney disease, Chef Aaron McCargo, Jr. from the Food Network show “Big Daddy’s House” recently visited a local dialysis clinic, Fresenius Medical Care Acworth. McCargo spoke with dietitians about how to cook the flavorful meals he created for the renal-diet and participated in a tasting panel.

Fresenius Medical Care Acworth, the fifth Fresenius Medical Care clinic in Cobb County, plans to open and start treating patients in May 2012. The clinic will offer the latest in dialysis services including a home dialysis program.

Diabetes is the leading cause of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in the U.S., accounting for about 44 percent of the people who start treatment for kidney failure each year. Maintaining a healthy diet is critical to the well-being for those with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). McCargo educated people about kidney failure and how to follow the requirements of their renal diet yet still enjoy cooking delicious meals that the whole family can enjoy.
