In Misery, We Love the Blues

Here are the things you need to know before heading out the door Feb. 4.

1. Weather: It's no mystery todayβ€”cold, wet, breezy, generally miserable. You don't need us or the National Weather Service to tell you to stay inside. The Weather Service says we could get an inch of rain today, and a flood watch is in effect. The high is expected to be about 37 degrees, but at least we should stay safely above freezing.

2. In case you missed it: We rolled out a bunch of new weekly features Thursday, none better than Viewfinder, a photo gallery of people in familiar places from the past week. If you happened to catch Men in Blues at last Friday, you'll want to relive the night by visiting Thursday's Viewfinder from photographer . Maybe you'll see yourself.

3. The gift of life: It's cold and miserable, so it's not a great day to enjoy the amenities of life in the Lake City. Why not find the time to give someone else life by donating blood? The American Red Cross faces a critical blood shortage because all the bad weather this winter has kept people from donating. Call 800-733-2767 or visit the website to get information on donating, or head over to the nearest donation center, 2145 Roswell Road, Suite 250, in East Cobb.

5. What about Feb. 4: Today is the sesquicentennial of the Confederate States of America. On this date in 1861, the delegates to the Provisional Confederate Congress met in Montgomery, AL, to form a separate nation and begin drafting a constitution, which took only four days.
