No Power at Nearby Kennesaw State

The morning after Thursday's severe weather, Cobb surveys the damage.

Cobb is cleaning up today after thunderstorms and strong winds swept through the area Thursday night, uprooted trees, knocked out power and shut down roads.

Kennesaw State University canceled all Friday classes and operations because of power outages, school officials announced. The university will resume its normal schedule on Monday.

The majority of storm-related incidents were in East and Northeast Cobb, according to a Facebook post from the county's website.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation wrote Thursday night in a Twitter post that about "70 trees down and 20 traffic signals not working across NE Cobb."

Crews worked through the night to reopen at least 17 roads that had been closed after the storm, according to the DOT.

They are still working in places such as the portion of Keene Street between Cobb Parkway and Summer Street in Kennesaw. Keene is shut down for about four hours due to fallen trees, according to a Twitter post this morning from the county.

Other roads that remain closed include:

  • Bishop Lake Road;
  • Kincaid Road;
  • Sewell Mill Road near Pleasant View Circle;
  • Paper Mill Road at Johnson Ferry Road;
  • Karls Gate Drive; and
  • Robinson Road.
