Update: 926 Cobb EMC Members Were Powerless

Except for trees that fell on power lines in North Cobb and West Cobb, strong winds that continue to sweep through metro Atlanta have had no significant impact in Cobb County.

"No injuries (or) major incidents," said Officer Mike Bowman, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a wind advisory that is expected to last until 7 p.m. today. That means winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph.

Late Tuesday, 926 Cobb EMC members were without power for 53 minutes after a tree fell on a power line at Shallowford and Bells Ferry roads, Cobb EMC spokesman Mark Justice said.

The impact would have been greater, but Cobb EMC was able to restore service to some without interruption.

"If a line is down and you've got a radius of subivisions without power, (Cobb EMC) can 'backfeed' from other substations to get power back on immediately," Justice said. "The rest of the people impacted, they couldn't 'backfeed' to them. That's what took the 53 mintues."

In West Cobb, a tree on a power line "tripped the circuit" at 780 Casteel Rd. this morning, Justice said. 

"They just went out there and repaired that really quick," he said.

That incident, which occurred around 8:45 a.m., caused no outages.
