Small Business Q&A: Canvas n’ Color

Owner Christy Tureta shares what it is like to run a painting studio.

Acworth Patch contributor April Zlotnik talked with Christy Tureta, the owner of .

Acworth Patch: What's the hardest thing about being a small-business owner in Acworth?

Christy Tureta: Since we are so new, the hardest thing is getting people to know that we are open. It is hard to get the word out to the community at large.

Acworth Patch: What's the best thing about your job?

Tureta: I go to work and I just paint everyday. It is such a relaxing, positive and fun environment. As a former principal, it is quite the opposite, although I enjoyed that.

Acworth Patch: What is the best thing about Acworth?

Tureta: It is like a little secret because there is so much. It has a small town feel but yet we have everything that the city can offer like restaurants, shopping and local attractions. I think the green space is wonderful.

Acworth Patch: Why did you choose to open up your business in Acworth?

Tureta: I do all my shopping in Acworth and since I was there everyday I felt like these were my neighbors and my community. Where I am in the plaza near Best Buy is a great busy area and I thought it would help me grow even faster since the businesses are already doing so well right there.

Acworth Patch: Why did you pick this particular kind of business?

Tureta: As principal, our charter school had closed, so everyone needed a plan B. Although I didn’t know it would lead me here, this concept we have for a painting studio is not a new concept but it is new to our area. I felt like this area needed something that could be attractive to the adults in the evening session but then we also offer a lot of opportunities for kids. We offer birthday parties, after school clubs, summer camps, and mini camps when schools are out. I still wanted to be close to kids, just in a different direction.

Acworth Patch: What are some of the services you offer that people don't know about?

Tureta: We do have two studio spaces. One is primarily for kids. We do kids' birthday parties. We also provide one-on-one instruction and after school art instructions. Every month we try and give back to an organization. We recently gave back to an animal shelter with our pet day. Coming up, we are going to help Bert’s Big Adventure and Susan G. Komen. We like to give back to non-profit organizations.

Acworth Patch: Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?

Tureta: It is a great place for friends, families, private events or birthday parties. It is a great time for guys and girls. We have date nights and fun guy-related images to paint. It is just a fun place to be.
