Small Business Q&A: Diva's & Dames Boutique

Owner Shana Gould shares what it is like to run a fashion boutique.

Acworth Patch contributor April Zlotnik talked with Shana Gould, the owner of .

Acworth Patch: What's the hardest thing about being a small business owner in Acworth?

Shana Gould: The hardest thing is managing the business. You never know what customers are coming through the door. You don’t know what your days are going to be like. There’s no rhyme or reason on what makes you busy and what makes it slow. Predicting the economy is also hard.

Acworth Patch: What's the best thing about your job?

Gould: All the shoe handbags and jeans that a girl could want. Opening all the packages, it’s like Christmas every day. I love it. The best thing really is the customers. It’s great to pep someone up or change their life for the better. And to bring self confidence to someone that doesn’t really have a lot of confidence.

Acworth Patch: What is the best thing about Acworth?

Gould: The best thing about Acworth is the city itself. The city works with all the business owners. We are a tight knit group. We are very supportive of one another. When you have a problem its no problem to walk into Tommy’s office and tell him about it. He’s there for you and he listens.

Acworth Patch: Why did you choose to open up your business in Acworth?

Gould: It was my family history. My mother’s always owned business in Acworth and on Main Street. I got the “bug” I guess. My mother is retired. She used to own Henry’s building. We owned that building and had several businesses in it for 16 years. We have always been Acworth supporters of business owners.

Acworth Patch: Why did you pick this particular kind of business?

Gould: I needed a business that would allow me to have all the shoes, and handbags and clothes that I wanted without my husband complaining about it. I found a way to get what I wanted and I made a living out of it. So, it works. The most beneficial part is actually having customers that dress in all black or all brown and then you get them to dress to color and then it’s like their whole lives get cheerful. It’s wonderful. It’s a very rewarding business because you make people happy.

Acworth Patch: What are some of the services you offer that people don't know about?

Gould: We offer Botox parties. We have local doctors that come in and provide Botox and beatifying services in our back room. We try to do that monthly; it just really depends on the doctor’s schedules. We love to do complete makeovers on people. It is so fun because they come in and they ask to be made over. We play dress up all day long. We talk about their hair and their look and what they are trying to achieve. It’s the best job in the world.

Acworth Patch: Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?

Gould: We have great prices. We have new inventory every week. We are open six days a week and we are closed on Sunday.
