Small Business Q&A: Fusco's Via Roma

Co-owner Michael Fusco shares what it is like to run an Italian restaurant.

Acworth Patch contributor April Zlotnik talked with Michael Fusco, co-owner of .

Acworth Patch: What's the hardest thing about being a small business owner in Acworth?

Michael Fusco: Not only in Acworth, but one of the hardest things is not having the big huge support system that you have when you work for a corporation, such as human resources or accounting, or advertising or publicity departments. You are all of those things.

Acworth Patch: What is the best thing about Acworth?

Fusco: The best thing about Acworth is the people. The city government is really good about being pro-business. We have a lot of support from there. I like the location and the closeness to Atlanta. You get to take advantage of all the things Atlanta has to offer but you can also get away from it if you need to or want to.

Acworth Patch: Why did you choose to open up your business in Acworth?

Fusco: I chose Acworth because the city government is pro business, the uniqueness of the downtown area, and the closeness to all of the communities around the area. I liked the fact that we didn’t have to go into a big box store or a strip center, rather in the unique and historical flavor of downtown Acworth.

Acworth Patch: Why did you pick this particular kind of business?

Fusco: I had been trained in the restaurant business and I have a degree in restaurant management from Okalahoma state and had worked for several chains. I just felt like it was time to strike out on my own. The opportunity presented itself and we took it.

Acworth Patch: What are some of the services you offer that people don't know about?

Fusco: We do cater. We do deliver in some cases. On the menu, people don’t know about the fact that we have fabulous lunch items. A lot of people don’t think about Italian when they are thinking about lunch, but we have a wide array of deli sandwiches and hamburgers and things like that. It is an unknown secret. We have one of the most reasonably priced wine lists in the metro area.

Acworth Patch: Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?

Fusco: As hard as it is, it just has a lot of great rewards. It’s different every day which is one of the things I love about it. It’s what I do and it’s what I love, and hopefully people see that.
