Small Business Q&A: Miss L’s Sandwich Shop

Owner Karen Littlefield shares what it is like to run a sandwich shop.

Acworth Patch contributor April Zlotnik talked with Karen Littlefield, the owner of .

Acworth Patch: What's the hardest thing about being a small-business owner in Acworth?

Karen Littlefield: In downtown Acworth we have a lot of competition because we have a lot of restaurants. The competition is high.  We are just trying to maintain a good core customer base.

Acworth Patch: What's the best thing about your job?

Littlefield:
My shop is my home away from home. I’m very comfortable here. I can come in early in the morning and make the soups. I like my job.

Acworth Patch: What is the best thing about Acworth?

Littlefield: It’s small town southern living, which is what I really like. It’s a very friendly place. People are friendly in Acworth.

Acworth Patch: Why did you choose to open up your business in Acworth?

Littlefield: When I opened the shop, only Henry’s was here. I opened a year after Henry opened. There was really no place for business people to come and eat lunch other than Henry’s for a quick lunch. Nothing was built on highway 41 at the time. I opened in 2001.

Acworth Patch: How long have you lived in Acworth?

Littlefield: I have lived in Acworth for 9 years.

Acworth Patch: Why did you pick this particular kind of business?

Littlefield: I opened, mainly because there was very much a need for business people to come in and get a good bite to eat at a reasonable price. It wasn’t fast food, that’s the main thing. I’ve raised four children and I’ve cooked my whole life.

Acworth Patch: What are some of the services you offer that people don't know about?

Littlefield: We do cakes and cookies here. We do catering for businesses such as the dentist office, the container company and the printing company.

Acworth Patch: Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?

Littlefield:
It’s kind of like coming to your mom’s kitchen. It has that nice homey feeling to it. We are not your typical chain restaurant or fast food place.
