Small Business Q&A: Pearl’s Spa and Apothecary Boutique

Owner Danielle Hilderbrand shares what it is like to run a spa.

Acworth Patch contributor April Zlotnik talked with Danielle Hilderbrand, the owner of .

Acworth Patch: What's the hardest thing about being a small-business owner in Acworth?

Danielle Hilderbrand: I can’t really think of anything that’s difficult of being a small-business owner in Acworth because the marketing for the downtown area is wonderful. All the businesses work really well together. I think it is just a matter of letting people know that downtown Acworth isn’t what it used to be. There’s so much to see and so much to experience down here. We all work together as business owners to market and bring people down here. I guess that would be our No. 1 challenge, letting people know that we are a nice lake community. There’s a lot to do and see down here.

As a brand-new small-business owner, it’s difficult to find the right guidance as far as how to work with employees, how to deal with different situations and to keep competitive prices with other businesses in my area.

Hilderbrand: I get to do what I love every day. I come to work and do what I love. I get to work to make people feel beautiful and feel great about themselves, and I’m my own boss.

Acworth Patch: What is the best thing about Acworth?

Hilderbrand: The downtown Acworth area is growing rapidly, and the community and business owners down here all work together as a team. It’s just a great place to live, work, shop and play.

Acworth Patch: Why did you choose to open up your business in Acworth?

Hilderbrand: Because I definitely see a growing community here. I love the historic feel of the downtown area, and the businesses are all here to really grow. I saw the community growing rapidly, and I wanted to be a part of it.

Acworth Patch: Why did you pick this particular kind of business?

Hilderbrand: I was born into the beauty industry. When I was born, there was a nail salon on our front porch at home. My mom has always been in the beauty industry, doing nails, hair and permanent makeup. I love to see people take care of themselves.

Acworth Patch: What are some of the services you offer that people don't know about?

Hilderbrand: We offer facials and massages, permanent makeup and microdermabrasion, which is a deep exfoliation done with a machine. It’s great to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and rejuvenate the skin. We also offer a skin-tightening and body-contouring procedure that is brand new and very popular. We offer professional men’s shaves. We have a whole grooming room just for men.

Acworth Patch: Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?

Hilderbrand: One thing we do that we don’t particularly advertise is we offer parties. We offer birthday parties and bridal parties. We have no problem staying late for a group of women who want to get together and visit the spa as a group. We have the ability to accommodate large parties.
