Trade-in Your Old Christmas Lights at The Home Depot

This year's program offers customers up to $5 off energy efficient holiday lighting.

This Week, announced its Fourth Annual Eco Options Christmas Light Trade-In event. Customers will be able to trade-in their old Christmas lights for coupons ranging from $3 to $5 off select energy efficient lighting, according to a release from the Atlanta-based home improvement retailer.

Beginning Thursday, Nov. 3, through Sunday, Nov. 13, you can bring in old working or non-working Christmas light strings to be recycled and receive a coupon for up to $5 off the purchase of energy efficient seasonal light-emitting diodes (LED) string lights. 

This tiered coupon program allows customers to receive:

  • $3 off Home Accents Holiday string lights;
  • $4 Martha Stewart Living or GE LED string lights;
  • $5 off EcoSmart or Lightshow LED lights

Purchase must be made during the 10-day event, and customers are limited to five redemptions. You will be able to participate in this event at the local , and all other U.S. locations.

“LED Christmas lights continue to be the growing trend in Holiday décor,” said Brad Whited, holiday decor merchant at The Home Depot.

Whited said The Home Depot has sold more than 40,000 miles of light sets in the past five years, enough to circle the globe 1.5 times.

He also said that eco-friendly LED lights use up to 80 percent less energy and last up to 25,000 hours.
