One Can Never Have Too Many Books

A special book sale will be held at Cobb County Central Library July 8-9.

Cobb Friends of the Library Hosts Special Book Sale

I was thrilled to receive an email from the Cobb Friends of the Library letting us know that both my husband and I will have the opportunity for a hot date next weekend at this special book sale, which will be held on Friday and Saturday, July 8-9, 2011, at Cobb County’s Central Library (266 Roswell Rd, Marietta), from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Prices are always kept low, with book prices starting at $1. There are always treasures in the stacks as this sale also includes comic books, antique books and special collector’s books. This particular special book sale is raising funds to supplement the Cobb Library System’s materials budget, always a worthy cause.

My husband and I would consider ourselves book addicts. We love biographies, fiction, nonfiction, encyclopedias, poetry, you name it. And, you’re likely to find that we have a copy of quite a few books in our own personal libraries. But, there’s something fun for us about the “hunt” for that new book to add to our personal library-which now probably numbers in the 5,000 book range—supporting our theory that you can never have too many books.

That great American orator and intellectual Henry Ward Beecher said, “A little library, growing larger ever year, is an honorable part of a man’s history. It’s a man’s duty to have books. A library is not a luxury, but one of the necessaries of life.”

There are too many good books we need to be introduced to and have available for our reading future and since we agree with good old Henry, we’ve already marked our calendars to attend the Cobb Friends of the Library’s Special Book Sale. We’re fans of the semi-annual Cobb Friends of the Library Book sales that held in March and October at the Jim Miller Park in Marietta. I’ve found some gems there, like the biography of John Denver that I snagged for $1 (hardcover) and eventually sold on Amazon for $75. Of course, I read it first!
