5 Things: Challenge Grant to Award Outstanding Seniors

Here are the things you need to know before heading out the door on May 4.

1. Weather. Sunny skies are in for today, with a high temp near 66 degrees. North wind is between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Going into tonight, mostly clear skies are expected, with a low temp around 39 degrees. North wind is between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

2. In case you missed it. : More than 250 classic cars took over the streets of Historic Downtown Acworth this past weekend. Hundreds showed up to enjoy an evening of car show, and downtown dinning and shopping.

3. Happening now. News from the Allatoona High School PTSA: For the first time, will be awarding letters for academic excellence to seniors. It is anticipated that 90 graduating seniors will qualify for the honor, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

4. Ahead on Acworth Patch. The Association of American Publishers (AAP), reported in its April 15 edition of AAP Insider that ebook sales were up 200% this February from the same time last year. They also reported that it was the most popular format, ranking above even paperback and hardback in all types of Trade publishing. 5. What about May 4. On May 4, 1959, the 1st Grammy Awards were held. On this date in 1970, Kent State shootings took place, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire to unarmed students, killing four and wounding nine others. The students were protesting the U.S. invasion of Cambodia. On the same date in 1979, Margaret Thatcher became the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
