5 Things: National Night Out

Here are the things you need to know before starting the day on Aug. 2.

1. Weather. Think yesterday was hot? It's even hotter today, with sunny skies and a high near 99 degrees as well as heat index values as high as 103, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight is expected to be mostly clear, with a low around 68.

2. In case you missed it. : Car lovers brought their collections to downtown Acworth Saturday for the Classic Car Cruise and parked them on a closed Main Street for all the world to see.Β 

3. Happening. The and several communities will be participating in the annual National Night Out event tonight. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in partnership with .

The purpose of National Night Out is to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for anti-crime programs, enhance police-community partnerships, and put criminals on notice that their illegal activities are unwelcomed.

The events start around 7 p.m. and run until about 9 p.m. Each neighborhood is doing something different such as a cookout or ice cream social. There will also be a luau-themed event at Creekside. Acworth police officers will be at each event with Target representatives. Here's a list of Acworth neighborhoods that are participating:
