5 Things: Ride to the Horizon to Benefit Special Needs

Here are the things you need to know before heading out the door on May 9.

1. Weather. Today is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high temp near 89 degrees and calm wind around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Going into tonight, it will be partly cloudy, with a low temp around 61 degrees and west wind around 5 mph.

2. In case you missed it. Videos: Thousands Walk in Cobb County Relay for Life: More than 5,000 people, 196 teams came together at the Cobb County Relay for Life to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, remember those who lost the battle, and fight back against the disease.

3. Happening now. First Annual Ride to the Horizon: A motorcylcle ride benefiting "Covering the Bases" fundraiser for the special needs Horizon Field will take place on Saturday, May 14. For pre-registration, forms can be downloaded from the City of Acworth website or picked up from the Acworth Police Department. Registration is also available on the day of the event. 5. What about May 9. On May 9, 1914, Mother's Day became a public holiday. On this day in 1974, the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee opened formal and public impeachment hearings against President Richard Nixon. Also on May 9, 1994, the South African parliament chose Nelson Mandela as president.
