Sunny Weather, Acworth Recycling Day

Here are the things you need to know before starting the day on Nov. 4.

1. Weather. Today is expected to be mostly sunny. High temp is near 61, with north wind around 15 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Mostly clear skies are in tonight, with a low around 38. Wind is between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

2. In case you missed it. : The Georgia Department of Education released an updated Adequate Yearly Progress report Wednesday, which included nine additional Cobb County schools that made this year's AYP. However, one Acworth school remained short of prescribed goals.

3. Happening. City Wide Recycling Day: The invites the community to participate in the Computer, Electronics and Metal Recycling Day from 8 a.m.-5 p.m this Saturday, Nov. 5, at the in downtown Acworth. The event occurs twice a year in May and November.

Most all materials made primarily of metal will be accepted, from aluminum cans to electronic items, even something as large as a washing machine will be recycled. All recycling is free, except for a $10 fee for computer monitors and a $20 fee for televisions. Visit the for more information and a complete list of items accepted.

5. What about Nov. 4. On Nov. 4, 2008, Democratic Senator Barack Obama won the presidential election against Sen. John McCain, taking 338 electoral votes to McCain's 161. Obama makes history as the first African American U.S. president.
