Weather

Today is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 54 and calm wind between 5 and 10 mph. There's a 40 percent chance of showers tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Temperature will drop to a low around 43.

Happening

  • While schools and government offices are closed Monday for the MLK holiday, the Acworth Achievers Mentoring and After School Program will making this by participating in a nationwide day of service. Volunteers will be walking the local neighborhood to clean up debris and trash 11 a.m.-1 p.m. around The Roberts School at 4681 School St.
  • are closed today in observance of the holiday. Sanitation pick-up will resume Tuesday.
  • Cobb County government offices, schools and libraries are also closed.

This Day in History

On Jan. 16, 2003, space shuttle Columbia took off on what would be its final mission. The craft broke up on its descent on Feb. 1, killing all on board.
