Citizens Police Academy Kicks Off Today

Here are the things you should know before heading out the door Mar. 1.

1. Weather. Today is expected to be sunny, with a high temp near 63 degrees and north wind around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Going into tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low temp around 34 and east wind around 5 mph. Sunny skies are also in the forecast for Wednesday.

2. In case you missed it. : Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, are some of the characters you could find in the wax museum at . First grade students took two weeks to research on some of the most well-known and significant African Americans in the nation's culture and put on six wax museum shows in a day to celebrate Black History Month. The 6 and 7 year olds were well dressed in costumes, and performed in front of dozens of parents and students from other classes at the school.

: Business owners and employees of Acworth's Main Street stores are upset with 's recent decision to enact a three hour parking limit on all spaces in the immediate vicinity, including spaces on Senator Russell Avenue. Three hour parking restrictions are becoming a bone of contention between Main Street and the city government.

3. Happening now. The 11th annual Citizens Police Academy held by the is kicking off today at 6:30 p.m.. The Academy will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 till 9:00 pm (except for the week of Spring Break) and end on May 17th. During the twelve weeks participants will have the opportunity to interact with officers and receive a basic understanding of the operations of the Acworth Police Department.
