City to Hold Town Hall Tonight

Here are the things you need to know before heading out the door on March 30.

1. Weather. There will be showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with a high temp near 60 degrees and wind between 5 and 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent, with possible rainfall amount between three quarters and one inch. Going into Wednesday night, scattered showers are expected after 2 a.m., with a low temp around 48 degrees and north wind between 5 and 10 mph, according to the NWS.

2. In case you missed it. : The Cobb County grand jury sent a request to meet with all seven members of the county’s Board of Education on April 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the Grand Jury Room at 10 East Park Square in Marietta. Lynnda Crowder-Eagle, whose Post 1 includes Kennesaw Mountain, , and Hillgrove high schools, said that the balanced calendar is one of the issues to be discussed.

Kathy Watkins, director of communications for the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, said the grand jury will not release its actions, recommendations or discussions to the public until its May 5 "general presentment."

3. Happening now. The is hosting a town hall meeting today at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at the City Hall. Mayor Tommy Allegood will be presenting a variation of his , which includes highlights of accomplishments from 2010 and goals and objectives for 2011. It is an opportunity for citizens to learn more about the community and ask questions to available city officials and staff.

5. What about March 30. On March 30, 1867, Alaska was purchased from Russia for $7.2 million, about 2 cents per acre, by U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward. This aquisition is also known as Seward's Folly.
