Got Allergies? Find Out the Pollen Count in Acworth Today

Springtime has arrived and pollen is in the air. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, Atlanta ranks No. 72 in the country on a list of "allergy capitals."

With a score of 59.21 out of a possible 100, Atlanta inched up on the list of the top 100 allegery metros, from the No. 73 spot in 2012. Rankings are based on factors such as prevalence, seasonal pollen scores, and allergy medicines used and board-certified allergists per patient.

Atlanta's 2013 pollen score is better than average, while the number of medications used by Atlanta patients is on par with the average 1.04 used per estimated patient. But Atlanta fares worse in the number of board-certified allergists, which on average is 1.05 per estimated 10,000 patients.

The only other Georgia city to make the list, Augusta came in at No. 33, with its better-than-average pollen score and allergists-per-patient ratio, but less-than-average medication utilization. Nearby metro areas topped Atlanta on the list—Chattanooga came in at No. 3, Birmingham at No. 14 and Greenville, S.C., at No. 19.

Thanks to the effects of climate change, experts say the pollen count this season will be higher than ever before.
