Help Allatoona High Award Outstanding Seniors

Here are the things you need to know before heading out the door on April 26.

1. Weather. There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, with partly sunny skies and a high temp near 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. South wind is between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Going into tonight, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly cloudy skies and a low temp around 62 degrees.

2. In case you missed it. : The Cherokee County Adult Detention Center supplied Patch with the mug shots and booking reports of the inmates who appear above. At the time of reporting, none of them has been convicted of the listed charges, and all should be presumed innocent.

3. Happening now. News from the Allatoona High School PTSA: For the first time, will be awarding letters for academic excellence to seniors. It is anticipated that 90 graduating seniors will qualify for the honor, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Your donation is urgently needed! Every dollar you donate will be doubled by a contribution from a Challenge Grant. Allatoona High needs to raise $600 by April 29. A gift in any amount would be appreciated. Please make a check payable to Allatoona High for purposes of ABC (Academic Booster Club).

5. What about April 26. On April 26, 1986, nuclear reactor accident occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Soviet Union (now Ukraine). It was the world's worst nuclear disaster. Three years later in 1989, the deadliest tornado in world history hit Central Bangladesh, killing more than 1,300, injuring 12,000, and leaving as many as 80,000 homeless.
