Join a Team for Horizon Kickball League

Here are the things you need to know before heading out the door on May 3.

1. Weather. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., with a high temp near 69 degrees and wind between 5 and 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. The NWS predicts the rainfall amount to be between a quarter and half of an inch. Going into tonight, there will likely be occasional showers and a thunderstorm before 8 p.m. Temperature will drop to a low around 43 degrees. North wind is between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation during the night is 80 percent.

2. In case you missed it. : held a successful prom night for the school's juniors and seniors at Embassy Suites in Kennesaw. DJ Lewis brought the tunes, as Allatoona students enjoyed an evening of entertainment with their peers as well as teachers and administrators. Many young ladies wore dresses that were given a second chance to benefit the Strength in Stilettos Program, a female student organization made up of students from Allatoona and Harrison High Schools. The program aims at supporting and empowering girls through promoting academic success and community involvement.

3. Happening now. Teams are now forming for the summer Horizon Kickball League. The league is open to all individuals who have special needs, ages 5-21 years old. Registration deadline is June 3. The cost is $15 which covers jerseys and league expenses. If you are unable to afford the cost, opportunities for financial aid are available by contacting Lauren Ham at 770-917-1234.

5. What about May 3. On May 3, 1802, Washington, D.C., was incorporated as a city. On the same date in 1937, Gone with the Wind, a novel by Margaret Mitchell, won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. Also on May 3, 1951, the Kentucky Derby was televised for the first time.
