New Pregnancy Support Center Opens in Acworth

The Acworth Women's Center is at 4805 Main St.

A center that hopes to provide "a non-judgmental and loving environment" for expectant mothers and their families to discuss parenting options held its grand opening Tuesday in Acworth.

Neva Wright, one of the pastors of Acworth Church of God of Prophecy, started the Acworth Women's Center in February 2011 as the Acworth Pregnancy Resource Center.

"God put a desire in Neva Wright's heart to reach women in Acworth," according to a post on the center's Facebook page.

She and her husband met with Mayor Tommy Allegood as well as a group of interested citizens and the center was incorporated in April 2011. Wright served as the center director until February 2012 when she and her husband were called to lead a church in Alabama.

Now located at 4805 Main St., the center offers pregnancy tests, parenting classes, post abortion care, counseling and a host of other free services to individuals who face unplanned pregnancies.
