Upcoming Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival

Here are the things you need to know before heading out the door on May 2.

1. Weather. Today is expected to be partly sunny, with a high temp near 82 degrees and calm wind between 5 and 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Going into Monday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 61 degrees.

2. In case you missed it. In his announcement at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night, President Obama confirmed the death of al-Qaeda Leader Osama bin Laden and that the terrorist leader's body is now in U.S. officials' custody. The president said that bin Laden's hiding compound was found by U.S. intelligence forces weeks ago, but it was not until last week that authorities decided it was time to carry out the operation that ended the al-Qaeda leader's life in a firefight.

He also said that no Americans were harmed in this operation. The president called this a historic moment signifying that "no matter how long it takes, justice will be done", and that "justices have been done".

3. Happening now. Smoke on the Lake: The Rotary Club of North Cobb and the will host the Second Annual Smoke on the Lake Backyard BBQ Festival on May 6-7. It will be a non-sanctioned BBQ competition open to anyone who loves to cook BBQ. The cost to enter the competition is $150. This is a chance find some of the best local BBQ in one place, and people can also enjoy a free Banks and Shane concert following the awards ceremony.

The admission is free with live music from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Gazebo Stage. Lawn seats are free and you can purchase a table and dinner for six for $100. Smoke on the Lake is a BBQ festival for charity that raises funds for local Cobb County Charities, including the Horizon Field at the .
