Three Men Qualify to Run for Open Acworth Alderman Seat

The election to fill the Post 3 seat vacated by Bob Weatherford will take place on May 20.

Qualifying for the May 20 Special Election to fill the unexpired term for the Acworth Alderman Post 3 seat closed at noon on Wednesday with three men entering the race.

All three have experience working in or alongside the city government.

According to a city representative, Patrick Cooney served as a city councilman from 1979-80 and again in 1985.

Brett North currently serves on the Acworth Planning and Zoning Board and made an unsuccessful bid for the Post 3 seat in 2011.Β 

Kevin Wigington serves as the secretary/treasurer on the city's Historic Preservation Commission

Last month, Acworth Alderman Bob Weatherford announced his intentions to run for the District 1 commission seat being vacated by retiring northwest Cobb Commissioner Helen Goreham.

Weatherford qualified to run for Goreham's open seat last week.

Each man paid a qualifying fee of $396 this week to fill the Post 3 position.
