Pro and backyard teams will compete for more $10,000 in cash and prizes. Pro teams will compete for the piles of cash as well as the title of grand champion. Backyard cook teams will compete for a shot at four different Primo Grills.

Superior Plumbing is presenting the event, which kicks off with a free concert, in conjunction with the Acworth Business Association and the City of Acworth on Friday, May 10. Sons of Sailors, a Jimmy Buffett cover band, takes the stage at 8 p.m. Friday.

Reserved tables that seat six can be purchased for $50. Cooking will continue all night along the banks of beautiful Lake Acworth and the event will reopen to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Visit the Taster’s Tent to sample all the barbecue you desire. The Taster’s Choice Award will be decided by patrons of the event. Tickets to taste the barbecue from backyard teams will be on sale for a nominal charge. You can vote with your stomach for the best barbecue to crown the winner of a Primo Grill and the title of the People’s Choice Champion.

New to the event this year will be the Acworth Community Magazine Cup. Students from four local high schools, North Cobb, North Cobb Christian, Harrison and Allatoona, will compete in a series of Survivor-themed events to claim the Acworth Community Magazine Cup.

The event will be capped off when students and faculty members of each school attempt to finish five pounds of barbecue in five minutes. The dreaded "Broken Oar" goes to the team finishing in last place.

Activities for the kids will be in the Kids Zone. The music that we all know and love will be played acoustically as Scott Thompson of Peachtree Station will perform from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Smoke on the Lake Barbecue Festival is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Rotary Club of North Cobb. Proceeds from the event go to the Acworth Special Needs Field, End Polio Now, Mountain Top Boys Home, The Men’s Extension, The Women’s Extension, MUST Ministries, HERO, House of Hope in Haiti, Cobb Christmas and more.
