Henry's 'Liverversary' Celebration Raises More Than $18K

Chef Henry Chandler supports Georgia Transplant Foundation with fundraiser.

From Henry's Louisiana Grill:

This weekend some 110 guests helped Chef Henry Chandler of Henry's Louisiana Grill, celebrate the 5th anniversary of his own life-saving liver transplant at his sold-out, annual Liverversary Celebration, raising $18,415 for the Georgia Transplant Foundation — almost $3,500 more than last year’s event.

The fundraiser, held upstairs at the Acworth restaurant, featured a large spread of authentic Cajun cuisine, musical entertainment, dancing, a mini-iPad raffle and a live auction, offering prizes such as a private dinner prepared by Chef Henry and a Gatlinburg getaway package. Special musical guest Melanie Denard and guitar player, Cody, opened her set with a spicy duet of “Voodoo Woman.”

Recovering transplant recipients celebrated too, such as Heather Wilson of Wilson Automotive, the event’s presenting sponsor, who had her own liver transplant just three months ago.

“We want to thank our Henry’s family, fellow transplant recipients and the wonderful volunteers at the Georgia Transplant Foundation for coming out and making this year’s Liverversary, our fourth, the most amazing experience yet,” said Chef Henry. “The support they gave this cause Saturday night is the kind of support they showed my family and me through my own health struggles, so that I could be here today to help others.”

Chef Henry received great personal news just days before the event—his five-year, post-transplant check-up delivered a cancer-free report.

Throughout the year, Chef Henry works tirelessly on the cause of organ donation. Diagnosed with liver cancer in 2007, his treatments proved unsuccessful, leaving the Cajun chef with one option for survival—a liver transplant. Thanks to many prayers and the excellent Piedmont transplant team, Chef Henry received his successful transplant in 2008.

In addition to the annual Liverversary Celebration, the chef also encourages restaurant guests to sign up for the Donate Life Registry with his annual “Chef Henry’s Challenge to Save a Life”, during ‘Donate Life Month’ in May each year. In 2012, 550 individuals accepted Chef Henry’s challenge and took the pledge at Henry’s Louisiana Grill.
