How Can We Honor Those Who Serve Us?

Did you know there is an opportunity each and every day, along with special events to demonstrate your appreciation?

In light of this weekend’s historic event with the death of Osama bin Laden and the brave men and women who carried out the mission, we reflect on how our community can show its appreciation to all of those who currently serve and have served our country. How do we show our appreciation as a community? Did you know there is an opportunity each and every day at , along with several special events throughout the year to demonstrate your appreciation?

Veterans Memorial at Patriots Point. The Memorial is nestled in the Eastern part of Cauble Park, located behind the Acworth Beach House. The Memorial officially opened on Nov. 11, 2006. The picturesque setting is the backdrop for one of the most original memorial designs of its kind. The service flags of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard surround the American Flag. The concrete dome structure is surrounded by a paver walkway.

Whether it’s simply sitting on one of the benches and reflecting, reading through the names of hundreds of servicemen and women whose names are forever commemorated on the engraved pavers, or purchasing an engraved paver for a family member or friend who proudly served their country, the Memorial always provides an opportunity to show our appreciation as a community.

We certainly do not want to forget about the numerous community events in addition to these that are hosted by local churches, schools, scout troops, VFW’s, American Legion Posts, and other military support organizations. If you coordinate or are aware of any other community events, please share!
