Cobb Police Shoot, Kill Armed Man in Acworth, Northeast Cobb

What apparently began as a domestic incident led to the shooting about 8:10 p.m. in the 3500 block of Dallas-Acworth Highway near Allatoona High School.

Cobb County police are still investigating after the officer-involved shooting at 3520 Dallas-Acworth Highway in Acworth, with its Internal Affairs Unit in conjunction with the Crimes Against Persons Unit.

The man shot and killed by police has been identified as Andrew Lambeth, 37, of Acworth.

"According to investigators, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center dispatched uniform officers from Zone 1 to the above address in reference to a domestic dispute," the press release says. "Information was provided to the officers that the subject was armed with a handgun and possibly suicidal.

"As the officer arrived he observed the individual in front of the residence, armed with a firearm. The firearm was discharged and the officer was forced to fire his weapon to stop the threat."

Lambeth was pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was injured. 

The officer who was involved is not being identified at this time and has been placed on routine administrative leave.

An armed man was shot and killed Friday night by a Cobb police officer, according to various news reports.

The shooting occurred about 8:10 p.m. in the 3500 block of Dallas-Acworth Highway near Allatoona High School, Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department told the Marietta Daily Journal.

Officers responding to an ongoing domestic dispute confronted the armed suspect and ordered him to put down his weapon, Bowman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

When the unidentified man did not comply with those orders, the officer fired.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Bowman said.

No officers were injured, according to the MDJ and the AJC.
