Acworth Man Indicted with Dentist in Ohio Drug Case

He faces a drug possession charge on allegations he obtained drugs using a doctor's prescription, but it wasn't his doctor.

**Update, Sept. 5: The case against John Mandia and co-defendants was dismissed on July 29, 2013.**

An Acworth man is one of four people who allegedly used prescriptions from an Ohio dentist to illegally obtain drugs.

A CVS worker's complaint about Dr. Corey J. Schmidt, 43, stemmed an investigation in North Ridgeville, Ohio, that led to allegations the dentist was writing illegal prescriptions for high-powered pain killers, including oxycodone and hydrocodone, sometimes without a license, reports WKYC.

Prosecutors say authorities found no documentation that John Mandia, 43, of Acworth, along with four others who filled prescriptions from Schmidt, had ever been his patient or been to his office. Each faces a drug possession charge.

Schmidt faces drug distribution, insurance fraud and theft charges.
